Modem Pool
Access
Communications Network Services (CNS) offers dial up access
to off campus affiliates for a monthly fee.
To sign up for or terminate service and find other modem pool information, see CNS's Virginia
Tech Modem Pool (VTMP) page (http://www.cns.vt.edu/html/data/vtmp/index.html). Currently, you use your PID and its associated password to access your modem pool account. For more information or if you have forgotten your password, see the Your PID page.
Caution: The residence hall room phone lines are digital lines and will not work with modems.
Do not attempt to plug a modem into a residence hall phone line as it may damage your modem.

Outside the Blacksburg Dialing Area
If you do not live in the Blacksburg local dialing area, please be aware that there is no toll-free number providing access to the Virginia Tech Modem Pool. People who live outside the local dialing area can use a non-Virginia Tech Internet Service Provider. Look for Internet Services in the Yellow Pages to find a list of providers in your area. If you live in an adjoining call area, it may be possible to add the Blacksburg calling area for a monthly fee. Contact your phone company for more information about this option. |
